Growth of gold nanowires like a plant on a silicon dioxide surface

CHN researcher Adnan Korkmaz submitted the above picture which won “Best Artwork” in the Engineering As Art contest held by the Northeastern University Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering on December 14, 2015.

This image depicts gold nanowire bridging observed during gold nanowire assembly by applying alternating current at room temperature. This image was taken by using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and processed using Adobe Photoshop.
